A rainy Fourth of July in Seward didn't slow down Thursday's top finishers in the 2013 Mount Marathon Race youth event, who turned in times faster than those that won last year's outing.
Palmer runner Lyon Kopsack, who turned in a second-place 2012 finishing time of 28 minutes and 2 seconds behind Miles Knotek's winning 27:17, beat both of those numbers by crossing the line Thursday with an unofficial time of 27:04. He was closely followed by runners Michael Marshall and Paul Butera.
Allison Ostrander was the first girl to finish, taking her third Mount Marathon girls' race with an unofficial 31:40 showing that bested her own 32:50 from last year.
In the women's race, rookie runner Christy Marvin picked up her first win with a time of 31 minutes and 41 seconds, with Anchorage Olympians Kikkan Randall and Holly Brooks sitting out this year's race after their Mount Marathon victories in 2011 and 2012.
