North Slope Borough police are investigating the discovery of an unidentified female body on the coast near Point Hope this week.
According to North Slope Borough Police Chief Leon Boyea, police were alerted Thursday to the location of human remains, about 13 miles south of Point Hope. It isn't immediately clear when they were initially found.
"It was reported to us at about 3:45 in the morning on the Fourth of July," Boyea said.
Boyea refused to discuss the circumstances under which the discovery was made, pending further investigation. Officers from the borough recovered the body, but no positive identification has yet been made.
