The Soldotna city council voted last week to move $1.1 million from the city's general fund to buy property next to Soldotna Creek Park.
The Peninsula Clarion reports the three-acre lot is just west of the park behind the Tesoro gas station. The property has often accommodated overflow parking during events like the Kenai River Festival.
The property's future is not outlined in city plans. Before the city buys the property, it must complete a soils analysis to determine if the ground will support development.
