The seriousness of the Stuart Creek 2 Fire burning near Fairbanks has been downgraded, and a high-level management team brought in for the fire will leave.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports local officials will take over fighting the fire from the Type 1 team, which will return to the Lower 48 Wednesday.

The fire started in June, and has been burning between Salcha and Chena Hot Springs Road.

The fire has burned about 131 square miles, and remains officially listed as 57 percent contained.

Favorable weather has helped crews contain the fire, and the lower temperatures and higher humidity are expected to last at least until Friday.
