A young Fairbanks couple and their four children were seriously injured early Wednesday, after Alaska State Troopers say their SUV was run off the Parks Highway by a vehicle that swerved into their lane.

In a Wednesday AST dispatch, troopers say they responded to Mile 154 of the Parks near the Alaska Veterans Memorial at about 3:30 a.m. Harley Mills, 24, was at the wheel of a black 1996 Chevrolet Blazer headed north on the highway with his family on board.

"(A) dark colored vehicle traveling south, reportedly crossed the center lane into the northbound lane of traffic," troopers wrote. "Mills reported taking evasive action to avoid a head on collision. The Blazer rolled and ended on its top in the trees next to the roadway."

According to troopers, ground and air ambulances transported Mills, his 25-year-old wife Sherry Mills and the children to hospitals. AST spokesperson Megan Peters described their injuries as serious but not life-threatening as of Wednesday night.

"The vehicle did not have airbags, and at this time it is unknown if all parties were using seatbelts," troopers wrote.

The Blazer is reportedly a total loss, and troopers are continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information on the dark-colored vehicle is asked to call troopers at 907-451-5100.
