Salvage plans are being prepared for a 77-foot integrated tug and barge that went aground this week 60 miles southeast of Cordova.

The Coast Guard said the owner of the Hook Point-Alaganik has a contractor to place boom, remove fuel and prepare the salvage plans.

The guard, in a statement, says heavy fog and the remote location is causing challenges.

The vessel's two crew members were conducting tsunami debris cleanup when bad weather hit Wednesday. Currents from the Seal River caused the vessel to turn broadside into ocean waves. The vessel was lifted up, and then came down on a large piece of river ice, causing the tug and barge to separate. Both washed on shore, and are reported to have sustained heavy damage. Neither crew member was injured.
