Two Outside motorcyclists are being treated in Anchorage for injuries they sustained when Alaska State Troopers say they collided while riding together Saturday on the Tok Cutoff.

According to a Monday AST dispatch, troopers were informed of the collision, near Mile 38 of the cutoff, at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

"The drivers were identified as Richard Hughes, age 60 of Texas and Weldon Bruce, age 64 of Georgia," troopers wrote. "Both drivers sustained significant injuries during the collision and were medevac'd to Anchorage."

AST spokesperson Megan Peters says it isn't yet clear how Hughes and Bruce, who were both wearing helmets and protective gear, came to collide.

"We don't really know -- there were no witnesses and they don't remember," Peters said. "The best we can tell is one of them rear-ended the other; people came across them in the road and called for help."

Troopers say alcohol doesn't appear to be involved in the collision, which remains under investigation.
