Former Alaska Republican Party chairman Ken Stout is receiving hospice care.
One of his daughters, Iditarod musher DeeDee Jonrowe, said in a statement Saturday that her father was diagnosed with a form of skin cancer last year. She says he had been doing well until the last few weeks.
The 83-year-old Stout was admitted to the hospital last Friday and released into hospice care on Tuesday.
Stout served as the party chairman from 1980 to 1985 and was later elected to a term on the Anchorage Assembly.
Before that, he spent 27 years in the U.S. Army.
