The Anchorage Education Association on Wednesday announced a majority of members approved a tentative three-year collective bargaining agreement with the Anchorage School District.
"At a time when we have real concerns about what the legislature may choose to do to health care and other bargaining issues, a three-year contract offers the most security we could get," said AEA president Andy Holleman in a statement distributed to union members.
If the board of the Anchorage School District approves the agreement, teachers will get slight increases in salary and benefits:
- 1 percent increase in salary annually
- $1,500 bonus in years one and three
- Health care continues to be provided by the National Education Association Health Trust, with contributions of $1,465 per month in year one and $1,540 in years two and three
- Increase in personal days from 2.5 days per year to 3
- Teachers have guaranteed input into school schedules, though principals maintain final authority
ASD must approve the proposal at a Sept. 9 meeting for the agreement to take effect.
