Anchorage firefighters along with volunteers will be on the streets Friday afternoon in Anchorage panhandling for a good cause.
Firefighters with the Anchorage, Girdwood, Airport and JBER Fire Departments will be volunteering their time on most of the city's major intersections, collecting money for the annual Muscular Dystrophy Association fundraiser Fill the Boot.
Last year the organization raised $100,647. According to Anchorage Firefighter David Barbeau, those donations stay close to home.
"The donations received by the citizens of Anchorage in Alaska stay in Alaska, and those donations go to benefit the famililes of children and young adults [living with Muscular Dystrophy] in Alaska," Barbeau said.
Local organizers have taken to social media sites, such as Facebook, to share its fund-raising locations. Fundraisers say Fill the Boot will be collecting donations from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at:

- Muldoon and Debarr
- Spenard and Minnesota
- Seward Hyw and Fireweed
- Dimond and Jewel Lake
