The citywide moratorium on issuing parking tickets ended Friday.
The Daily Sitka Sentinel reports Sitka and other cities stopped issuing tickets after a court ruling said citations filed in state court had to be personally served on a driver and not left on windshields.
The assembly in August changed the city code to bypass the requirement. A new ordinance makes parking violations and civil offense rather than criminal. A local appeal process has been set up.
