Denali Park Road Opened to Mile 30 for Cars

Visitors to Denali National Park and Preserve can now drive their private vehicles to mile 30 on the park road, weather permitting.

The park service advises visitors to call ahead, though, for current road information, as weather can change quickly at this time of year.

During the summer, most private vehicles can go no further than mile 15, with buses bringing in most visitors.

The park, in a release, says there will be two road-related construction projects this fall, though they are expected to have minimal impact on park access.

Beginning Wednesday, the Murie Science and Learning Center will begin serving as the winter visitor center.

Vault toilets will be available at miles 12, 15 and 30, but other park facilities west of headquarters are closed for the season.
