After more than seven days of searching, crews have yet to find any sign of a plane flown by an Eagle River man that disappeared from radar last week near the Southeast Alaska community of Yakutat.
Alaska National Guard spokesperson Sgt. Edward Eagerton says the 11th Air Force's Rescue Coordination Center is still conducting a search for 47-year-old Alan Foster's Piper PA-23, last reported at about 4 p.m. Sept. 9 near the Malaspina Glacier, about 42 miles northwest of Yakutat.
Civil Air Patrol aircraft from Anchorage and Fairbanks tried to reach their search areas, but were turned back by poor weather Wednesday.
"Today, there was one CAP plane flying," Eagerton said.
According to Eagerton, efforts were also hindered by crew rest requirements. In addition, Guard air assets were being used to conduct another mission in the state Wednesday.
"It's really sad that they haven't seen anything yet," Eagerton said.
Eagerton says RCC crews still hoped to send an HC-130 search plane to the area Wednesday.
