The owner and partner, of an Eagle River mobile cupcake truck, will soon appear on the Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars.”
Kastle Sorensen, owner of Kastle's Kreations, auditioned for the show two times and was ready to give up. Sometimes, three times is a charm.
Sorensen and her baking assistant, Amy Grue, began training as soon as they found out they made the cut to the show known for unusual baking challenges.
Sorensen couldn't reveal much about the show before it airs, but she could tell us that their assignment was to use sustainable seafood.
“It was kind of cool, obviously, you're like 'oh my goodness, what am I supposed to do' seafood in a cupcake,” said Sorensen. “But being from Alaska is like 'man, if we can nail this and do a good job,’ like this would be like so exciting to have a cupcake with seafood in it.”
She says the experience of being in a different kitchen was like visiting a foreign country, but it was nice to have room to cook.
“It's kind of scary walking into this place and then you don't know what you're going to be baking, so that was definitely crazy,” said Sorensen.
The show airs Saturday, November 23 at 4 p.m. on the Food Network "HD" and 7 p.m. on the regular Food Network channel.
There will be a viewing party at Pizza Man restaurant in Eagle River from 3 to 6 p.m., November 23.
