Kodiak's downtown harbor will be the focus of a holiday lights contest for boats. The Kodiak Daily Mirror says the Kodiak Maritime Museum is sponsoring the event, which is set to begin at 5 p.m. Saturday and run until 9 p.m. Museum director Toby Sullivan says the idea isn't new, but it hasn't been done in several years. In previous years, a Christmas boat parade with decorated boats sailed around the area, but the event was sometimes difficult to put on because of bad weather. The idea to bring back a similar event came from the downtown revitalization committee. The new idea will keep boats in the harbor. People will be able to walk around the harbor floats to judge the boats.
