Alaska State Troopers say a 35-year-old man faces felony assault charges after being arrested in connection with a Sunday domestic-violence incident in the village of Kiana. According to a Monday AST dispatch, Shaun E. Johnson was arrested after Kiana’s village public safety officer responded to a report of the incident, in which troopers believe alcohol was a factor. “Johnson is currently on conditions of felony probation (in reference to) a felony assault conviction from the Kotzebue Court and was found to be in violation of those conditions,” troopers wrote. “Johnson has numerous assault convictions in the preceding 10 years; he is being charged with felony assault.” Court records show that Johnson faces a charge of third-degree assault in the Sunday case. He pleaded guilty to one count of fourth-degree assault in April 2007, and one count of third-degree assault in July 2012. In an email to Channel 2, AST spokesperson Megan Peters loosely describes the victim and denies the use of a weapon in the assault, but declined to discuss whether Johnson had assaulted the same victim in previous cases. “The victim is an adult female,” Peters wrote. “The assault was done with hands.” A records request to the Kotzebue court clerk’s office for details on the case was pending a response Monday afternoon. Johnson is being held at the Kotzebue Regional Jail pending arraignment. This is a developing story. Please check KTUU.com and the Channel 2 newscasts for updates.
