An Alaska State Trooper responding to an unconscious man, who threatened and tried to bite him inside a Wasilla home, Tased and pepper-sprayed the man then took him into custody early Tuesday morning. According to a Tuesday AST dispatch, troopers responded at about 12:45 a.m. Tuesday to a home on Full Curl Avenue, where 48-year-old Darrell Charles had been reported unconscious. “Charles became combative and lunged towards the trooper,” troopers wrote. “When held down Charles attempted to bite the trooper and screamed death threats.” In an email to Channel 2, AST spokesperson Megan Peters says troopers found indications that Charles had been using both drugs and alcohol prior to the incident. After lunging at and threatening the trooper, the two struggled, leading the trooper to Tase Charles. “Charles didn't like that and tried to go at (the) trooper again,” Peters wrote. “(The) trooper then deployed his pepper spray; after that the trooper was able to get him handcuffed.” Charles was arrested on charges of fourth-degree assault and disorderly conduct. After being treated at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for the Tasing and pepper-spraying, he was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on $1,000 bail, with a court-approved third-party custodian required for release.
