A newly signed commercial agreement anticipates the state's equity share in a major natural gas pipeline project at about 20 to 25 percent. The agreement, signed by officials with the state, TransCanada Corp., and the North Slope's three major players, spells out terms for a new direction in pursuing the long hope-for gas line project. The agreement is subject to passage of legislation that at a minimum would allow for contract terms and a confidential process by which the administration could participate in developing those terms. State officials separately signed an agreement for pipeline services with TransCanada that would replace the existing contract between the parties, pending passage of enabling legislation. Gov. Sean Parnell last week said he would introduce legislation that would help accomplish what the agreement sets out.
