A 33-year-old construction worker is accused of stealing one ton of copper wire at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says Eric Brandon Bailey of Fairbanks was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of second-degree felony theft. Campus police received a report about the alleged theft last week from a utility tunnel under a dormitory. A large amount of copper wire was being replaced at a construction site. According to a criminal complaint, the old wire was set to be salvaged for UAF's construction project fund. Police say Bailey and an unnamed accomplice received $3,857 from a local scrap yard for the wire. The accomplice has not been charged. It's unclear if Bailey has an attorney. He could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday.
