Messy, Drippy, Sloppy January and Broken Windows in the FBI Building

Warm, wet weather in Southcentral Alaska melted ice sculptures, created puddles on roads and kept people scrambling to stay dry.

In downtown Anchorage, where the temperatures topped 46 degrees, Rachel Weddington and her 4-year-old granddaughter Naia posed in front of elaborately carved ice sculptures that were quickly losing their shapes.

"I think the weather is just wonderful," Weddington said. "I'm enjoying Alaska, it's warm, it could be like at Prudhoe Bay."

Gusting winds broke several windows at the FBI building on 6th Avenue. The left lane of traffic was closed down while crews worked to fix the damage.

In midtown, where the temperatures peaked at 50 degrees, drivers blazed through huge puddles that left many walkers drenched.

"You get used to it after a while," Megan Chadsey said. "You learn where to step and where not to."

At Kincaid Park, only a handful of skiers were out Friday night.

The winds were fierce but didn't cool things enough to stop the melting snow from dripping off the roof of the chalet.
