Mat-Su Valley firefighters safely extinguished a fire at a Wasilla home Thursday morning. According to Clint Vardeman, deputy director of Central Mat-Su Emergency Services, crews received a report at 8:54 a.m. of the fire, on the 6650 block of West Wellington Drive off Knik-Goose Bay Road. “It was called out that no one was home,” Vardeman said. “Smoke was coming from the roof and flames were coming from the back door.” At least 10 units, including seven tankers, two engines and an ambulance plus several command vehicles, were dispatched to the scene. Initial crews arrived at the scene by 9:05 a.m., and the fire was reported under control at 9:58 a.m. There were no reports of injuries to pets or people. The cause of the fire, and the extent of damage to the home haven’t yet been determined.
