A Houston man has died after a two-car collision in Palmer Thursday night that sent him and four other people to Southcentral Alaska hospitals, according to Alaska State Troopers. A Sunday AST dispatch says troopers were informed by the state medical examiner's office at about 8 p.m. Saturday that injuries suffered by 50-year-old David Bellmay in the wreck had proven fatal. Troopers say Bellmay was at the wheel of a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, headed south on Trunk Road with an adult and a 7-year-old child as passengers. The Grand Am veered into the oncoming lane near Trunk’s intersection with Forestwood Drive and struck a 1994 Toyota 4Runner, driven by 57-year-old Palmer man Clifford Johnsen with one adult passenger on board. AST responded to the crash at about 8:15 p.m. Thursday. All of the adults in the crash, including Bellmay, were taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center after the crash while the child was flown to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage for treatment. The crash remains under investigation by troopers.
