Seward police say a woman’s body was found near a creek in the vicinity Sunday, a week after that of an Anchorage man with a missing companion was found floating in a local harbor. Seward Police Department Chief Tom Clemons says the woman was found dead in the Fourth of July Creek area, on the opposite side of Resurrection Bay from the Seward Small Boat Harbor. “We have located a deceased female Sunday, and we have sent the body to the state medical examiner’s office,” Clemons said. “A private citizen found (the body), and they reported it right away.” Clemons declined to say whether the woman matched the description of a person believed to be accompanying 51-year-old Patrick Richard on a visit to Seward earlier this month. Richard and his companion had stayed aboard a boat in the harbor, but were reported overdue for a charter bus to Anchorage at 9 a.m. on Jan. 19. A friend reported seeing Richard’s body in the water near the boat at 10:20 a.m. that day, leading to its recovery by searchers. The woman's body remains “unidentified at this point” according to Clemons, and is being sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Anchorage for identification and determination of cause of death.
