The man who died after a daylong standoff with Anchorage police has been identified as 28-year-old Iqqagak Glen Miller.

APD spokesperson Jennifer Castro says Miller's next-of-kin have been notified.

Police initially responded at 5:30 a.m. Sunday to a South Anchorage apartment complex, where a woman said Miller threatened to kill her.

When officers arrived, Miller was barricaded inside a residence near Seward Highway and 100th Avenue.

A SWAT team arrived on scene around 10 a.m. and spent several hours attempting to get Miller to leave the apartment safely, including a series of so-called “less lethal” tactics.

Throughout the day, officers attempted to contact Miller by loudspeaker and used gas at the home; Castro didn't immediately have details Monday on which gases were used. Police reported seeing movement in the apartment, but when they made entry shortly after 3 p.m. Miller was found unresponsive.

According to Castro, police still believe that Miller's death was self-inflicted as described in a Sunday APD statement, based on what police found when they entered the home. She declined to elaborate Monday, citing the open investigation of what happened.

"Evidence there suggested that his death was self-inflicted," Castro said. "The Crime Scene Team was called to investigate the incident."

Castro said in a Monday release that Miller’s cause of death is unclear. An autopsy is being conducted including a toxicology report, which she says is standard procedure for similar cases.
