A Nikiski man has been flown to Anchorage for treatment of serious injuries he sustained in a high-speed single-vehicle rollover on the Kenai Spur Highway Wednesday night. According to an Alaska State Troopers dispatch issued early Thursday, Soldotna dispatchers were informed of the crash which injured the driver -- 30-year-old Christopher T. Overhuls -- at Mile 21.2 of the highway, near its intersection with North Miller Loop, just before 10 p.m. Wednesday. “Investigation revealed a maroon 2000 Ford Mustang was traveling at a high rate of speed,” troopers wrote. “Overhuls lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and crashed through a fence near the old Agrium plant.” Nikiski medics joined troopers responding to the scene; Overhuls was wearing a seat belt, but was medevaced to Providence Alaska Medical Center. He was listed in serious condition Thursday morning.

AST spokesperson Megan Peters says in an email that Overhuls, the Mustang's sole occupant, was headed north on the highway when it rolled over on a "pretty straight easy stretch" of road. She says alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. Troopers with the Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol also arrived to take over investigation of the crash, with the highway remaining open as AST cleared the scene.
