A Fairbanks man injured in a Sunday snowmachine crash north of Paxson is recovering from a broken leg in Anchorage, after he was rescued by an Alaska Air National Guard helicopter. Alaska State Troopers in Delta Junction learned of the crash in the Hoodoo Mountains near Summit Lake just after 4:15 p.m. Sunday, according to an AST dispatch issued later that evening. “It was reported Tyrel Johnson, age 32, of Fairbanks had flipped his snowmachine while riding up a mountain face and (severely) broke his leg,” troopers wrote. “Due to the remote location and the terrain Johnson had to be recovered by helicopter.” The 11th Air Force’s Rescue Coordination Center sent an HH-60 Pave Hawk from the 176th Wing to pick up Johnson. Its crew took him to Providence Alaska Medical Center for treatment.
