After 15 years, this will be the last year for the Duct Tape Ball.
Committee members say the event is a lot of work and they need a break.
"It is a lot of work," said Leah Boltz, a Duct Tape Ball committee member. "We put in about 3,000 hours a year of volunteer time to this. And we start in October, so it's a lot of work. The main thing is, after 15 years, the board decided, let's go out with a bang this year."
The theme this year is "2014: A Space Odyssey."
Over the years the event has raised more than $1.5 million for 17 different charities. Each year, organizers choose three charities that benefit women and children to receive the money collected at the ball.
This year, funds will go to Equine Assisted Therapy of Alaska, Armed Services YMCA and the Anchorage Rotary in support of "Parks for All."
