A community advocate and a former state representative are joining an increasingly high-profile East Anchorage Assembly race, which could shift the body’s political orientation in this spring’s elections. AK Pride founder and Northway Mall manager Mao Tosi announced Friday that he will file paperwork to run for the Assembly’s Seat I in District 5. Former state Rep. Pete Petersen (D-Anchorage) has also filed for the seat, currently held by Adam Trombley. A Tuesday statement announcing Petersen’s filing says the coming contest “is expected to be the most competitive Assembly race this year.” Tosi tells Channel 2 he’s quite aware of the difficult competition he faces for the job. “I have a tough hill to climb but I look forward to knocking on doors and hearing from citizens,” Tosi said. Municipal elections will be held on Tuesday, April 1. Channel 2’s Corey Allen-Young contributed information to this story.
