A bill expanding the list of Alaska locations where smoking is banned has been introduced in the state House. The measure by Anchorage Republican Lindsey Holmes includes a ban on electronic cigarettes, also known as e-cigarettes, in those places. Smoking is now banned in roughly half of all public work places and the bill would expand the ban to nearly all work places. It would prohibit smoking in sport arenas, public and private educational facilities, shopping malls and public enclosed areas. The measure would ban smoking in buses, taxicabs, ferries, mass transit depots, bus shelters, airports, and home day care centers The bill will be considered first by the House Health and Social Services Committee.
