An Anchorage woman who pleaded guilty to performing sex acts on a Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson airman in an attempt to blackmail him was sentenced Friday to four years behind bars. In an email to Channel 2, state prosecutor Jack McKenna says Lagina Griffiths, 41, was sentenced to six years in prison with two years suspended, in addition to five years of probation following her release.
“The judge ordered as a condition of her probation that she receive a mental health evaluation and follow all recommendations,” McKenna wrote. “As required by statute, once she is released from probation she will have to continue to register as a sex offender for a period of 15 years.” Griffiths was accused of first-degree and second-degree sexual assault as well as coercion in the August 2012 case. Prosecutors say she met the married airman at the now-closed Rumrunner’s bar in Downtown Anchorage, then brought him to her Eagle River home. He woke up to find her performing oral sex on him, which became part of a plot to blackmail him; the airman then took the case to the Air Force's Office of Special Investigations. Friday’s sentencing came after Griffiths pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree attempted sexual assault in October. Channel 2's Corey Allen-Young contributed information to this story.
