A former player for the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves says former hockey coach Dave Shyiak violently struck a player with his hockey stick.
The Anchorage Daily News (http://is.gd/1VC9Js) reports that Seawolves winger Mickey Spencer alleges in a letter to university president Patrick Gamble that the incident occurred during a practice in 2011.
Spencer says Shyiak struck UAA forward Nick Haddad during a drill after the coach apparently became angry when Haddad failed to stop in front of the net as instructed. Spencer says the coach struck the player with a "baseball style" swing across his thigh.
The newspaper says two team members have corroborated Spencer's account.
Shyiak denied anything happened when questioned by the Daily News in 2011.
He declined comment Monday.
