A South Anchorage drug bust by Anchorage police Friday morning resulted in the seizure of about $30,000 worth of heroin and methamphetamine, as well as a man’s arrest on multiple drug charges. According to APD spokesperson Jennifer Castro, 48-year-old Robert Hoffman faces four counts of misconduct involving controlled substances, including two third-degree counts and one each in the second and fourth degree. He was also charged with one third-degree count of misconduct involving weapons. APD’s raid, on the 6000 block of Askeland Drive, saw officers seize roughly 130 grams of methamphetamine and 50 grams of heroin. Castro says officers began to investigate the case Thursday. The woman who answered the door, 47-year-old Kayla Pusich, was initially arrested on a charge of hindering prosecution. While that charge was later dismissed, Castro says her intervention caused officers to break open the home’s door with a handheld battering ram. “She wasn’t cooperating with police when we knocked on the door of the residence, and wouldn’t let us in,” Castro said. “We had to use a ram.” Despite the initial resistance, Castro says Hoffman made no apparent attempt to escape. “From what I understand, it was a cooperative arrest,” Castro said. Castro characterized the case as a distribution-level bust, with drug officers saying its effects would be felt beyond Hoffman himself. “If you were to break this down on a dealer level, this would have potentially eliminated a few hundred deals on the street,” Castro said. Just over a month ago, APD seized $400,000 in cocaine and heroin from a package delivered to a Motel 6 in Midtown. The guest whom employees said the package was addressed to, 27-year-old California man Markee Allen, faces federal charges of attempting to possess cocaine and heroin with intent to distribute it to others.
