A grand jury has returned an indictment against a 73-year-old man on attempted-murder and assault charges in the South Anchorage stabbing of his wife last week. According to Deputy District Attorney Clint Campion, John Marshall Bagley has been indicted after a March 12 incident on the 13000 block of Back Road. Court documents say that when his wife said she’d hired a lawyer for her divorce from him, Bagley reacted by cutting her with a butcher knife, then following her outside -- an attack which only ended when a witness fired a shot in the air and held Bagley at gunpoint. “The grand jury indicted Bagley for attempted murder in the first degree and assault in the first degree,” Campion wrote. “If convicted, Bagley faces a sentence of up to 99 years in prison and a fine of $500,000.” Bagley’s arraignment has been scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Monday in Anchorage Superior Court.
