The Alaska Earthquake Information Center says a strong earthquake rattled the western Aleutian Islands but was not felt by any Alaska communities.
The epicenter was near the Andreanof Islands 65 miles southwest of Adak Island.
The quake hit at 5:48 a.m. Sunday at a depth of 29 miles with a preliminary magnitude recorded at 5.6.
Adak is 1,300 miles southwest of Anchorage.
