Anchorage police arrested Korakanh Phornsavanh, 26, for the October 2012 murder of Said Beshirov, 27, near Platinum Jaxx.

Police alleged that Phornsavanh shot and killed Beshirov outside the downtown club on Sixth Ave and I Street during a Halloween party on October 28.

"The shooting had occurred during a Halloween celebration where most of the attendees arrived at the club dressed in costume," Dani Myren, a police spokesperson, wrote in a Friday news release.

It happened outside the club as people were waiting for rides, around 2:53 a.m. as the bar closed, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

"During a scuffle that broke out between two groups of individuals, a female patron was knocked to the ground," Myren wrote. "This caused more individuals to join the mêlée, resulting in several physical altercations.  During the course of the fighting shots were fired; Beshirov was struck and killed.  The suspect and several witnesses fled the scene before police arrived."

Detectives interviewed several witnesses, and some were described as, "many of whom had varying levels of intoxication." Detectives also reviewed video surveillance from Plantium Jaxx and surrounding businesses. Two videos were captured and recovered based on the public's help and the videos had portions of the various fights.

A few days after the shooting, police said detectives were looking for two witnesses, dressed in Iron Man and Incredible Hulk costumes, but did not say they were suspects in the case at the time.

On Thursday, the Anchorage District Attorney's office presented the case to the Grand Jury and Phornsavanh was charged with murder in the first degree and murder in the second degree.

On Friday, police arrested Phornsavanh without incident and bail was set at $1 million.

APD said it was still looking for people with any information that have not been interviewed already, "due to the large number of potential witnesses in this matter."

If you have information about the case, then you can call police at 786-8900 or to remain anonymous, then call Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP.
