The public has until June 24 to voice opinions about a proposed Public Safety Academy driving range in Sitka.
The Daily Sitka Sentinel reports the driving range will be on 26 acres located on Yaw Drive.
It will include a driving course, maneuvering pad, building, waste disposal area, and an observation tower.
It's intended as a world-class driving range that law enforcement from other states could use.
John Barnett, project environmental coordinator for the driving range, says there are environmental concerns. All but 1 1/2 of the 26 acres are on delineated wetlands.
He says some impact is unavoidable, and that's why it's important people submit their comments on the project. Nearby land is being considered for purchase for preservation.
