Dry conditions across the state have increased fire activity and the Alaska Interagency Coordination Center expanded red flag warnings on Saturday.

There were fire weather watches for the Susitna and Kuskokwim valleys as well as very dry conditions in the Copper River Basin and Kenai Peninsula.

Wood chips and organic debris was burning within the Yukon training area - creating smoke that may last throughout the summer, but fire activity in Fairbanks and nearby areas have remained minimal.

Wildfire managers say close attention has been paid to lightning forecasts, however the most probable source of fire potential continues to be human activity.

The most significant wildfire of the season so far was the Bitter Creek fire near Tok, which the state declared contained on June 11 after burning 2,256 acres. No homes were damaged and the blaze had 173 personal assigned at its peak.

As of Saturday, 205 wildfires have claimed more than 47,000 acres in Alaska.
