Wildfire crews are working to extinguish a fire near a popular recreation area south of Fairbanks off the Richardson Highway.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the fire Sunday night was growing rapidly near Harding Lake off Old Valdez Trail about 35 miles southeast of Fairbanks.
Harding Lake is ringed by homes and recreation cabins.
Division of Forestry spokeswoman Sarah Saarloos says no homes or cabins have been reported damaged.
She says aircraft dropped retardant and water on the fire.
No acreage estimate of the fire was immediately available.
