Gov. Sean Parnell has signed a bill that will allow construction of residential housing at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage.

Parnell signed SB88 Wednesday at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium. On hand were the bill's two primary backers, Sen. Pete Kelly of Fairbanks and Sen. Kevin Meyer of Anchorage.

The bill authorizes the state to issue $35 million in bonds to pay for the residential housing building and a pedestrian bridge at the Alaska Native Medical Center campus in Anchorage. The housing is intended for families who need a place to stay while relatives are in longterm care at the hospital.
