A new report says Alaska's road system is the lowest quality and least cost-effective in the nation.
The Juneau Empire reports the ranking is from the Reason Foundation, which has compiled the list for 20 years.Among this year's findings is an increase in the number of rural roads considered in poor condition, bad conditions on interstate pavement in urban areas and the number of deficient bridges.
The state department of transportation says the report is flawed since it doesn't take into account the unique nature of Alaska's roads, nor the costs associated with road building in the 49th state.
