The Alaska Earthquake Information Center says a moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.6 hit Tuesday evening near Alaska's Fox Islands.
The earthquake center said the 7:40 p.m. quake was felt in Nikolski in the Fox Islands. Nikolski is about 120 miles from the quake's epicenter. There were no reports of damage.
The Fox Islands are part of the Aleutian Island chain off southwest Alaska.
The quake was centered more than 900 miles southwest of Anchorage.
