A flightseeing plane with six people on board crashed Sunday night across Cook Inlet from Homer, but National Transportation Safety Board officials say nobody on board was injured.

According to NTSB spokesperson Clint Johnson, the wheel-equipped Cessna 206, operated by Homer-based K Bay Air, was departing from Kamishak Bay -- about 80 miles southwest of Homer -- when it went down sometime from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

"Long story short, it crashed on takeoff and ended up in the surf," Johnson said. "We're assuming it was a bear-viewing trip."

Johnson says efforts are under way to recover the aircraft, and NTSB investigator Brice Banning is beginning to conduct interviews with the company officials involved.

"Brice is meeting with the operator now, and we're hoping to speak with the pilot soon," Johnson said.
