A veterinarian has confirmed that a horse stabled at the Tanana Valley State Fair in Fairbanks was injured over the weekend.
Alaska State Troopers say the horse was sexually abused.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports a woman camping at the fairgrounds and caring for other animals heard a disturbance at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
She found a 10-year-old quarter horse mare out of its pen and apparently injured.
The nature of the injury was not immediately noticeable.
The incident was reported Monday. Fair board member Gaby Larry says a vet examined the horse and confirmed the injury.
Troopers are asking the public to report suspicious behavior at the fairgrounds.
