The Anchorage Fire Department has lifted a municipal burn ban, citing the city's ongoing rainfall.
The burn ban was instituted last month because of prolonged dry weather. During the ban, all open burning was prohibited, including permitted burns, outdoor fires and use of portable fireplaces.
Fire Department forester John See says in a Wednesday release that precipitation received over the past 24 hours is allowing department officials to resume the daily burn/no-burn determination for outside fires.
During the burn ban, officials said warm and dry weather and minimal precipitation made for very high to extreme fire danger levels.
