The Juneau School District will and the public school teachers union will invite a mediator to help settle contract negotiations.
KINY-AM (http://bit.ly/WBe2Xg) reports an impasse was declared in contract talks between the district and the nearly 400 teachers in the Juneau Education Association.
Superintendent Glen Gelbrich in an announcement says he's optimistic that a settlement will be reached.
The current contract ends June 30.
Employees covered by the contract include classroom teachers, counselors, librarians, psychologists and speech, physical and occupational therapists.
