Anchorage police are seeking the writer of a note alerting law enforcement to a badly beaten 18-year-old man earlier this week, who remains in critical condition at a local hospital.

APD spokesperson Jennifer Castro says the University Police Department at the University of Alaska Anchorage was informed Monday night that the man was being held against his will on the 800 block of Barrow Street, with that information relayed to APD shortly before 9 p.m. He was found unconscious, with severe injuries.

Castro says police are still working to confirm the identity of the victim, who is still alive but has yet to fully recover from the attack.

"He was found with an ID on him, but we need to verify that is indeed the person," Castro said. "His vitals are registering, but he's not conscious."

According to Castro, the anonymous writer of the note may have saved the man's life -- and may also be officers' best link to his attackers.

"They knew something about this event -- they knew something about what happened," Castro said. "Clearly at least one person knew something about what happened to this guy."

Anyone with information on the case should call APD at 786-8900 or Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP.
