Homer Electric Association employees are credited by Alaska State Troopers with saving a fellow lineman’s life after he sustained serious injuries in an electric shock incident late Wednesday afternoon. According to HEA spokesperson Joe Gallagher, the incident in which the man -- identified by troopers as 33-year-old Homer resident Jacob Adams -- was injured occurred off of Diamond Ridge Road. A Thursday AST dispatch says officials with the association called Soldotna dispatchers at about 4:35 p.m. to request a welfare check on Adams’ crew. “(Adams) was conscious and alert but had suffered significant injury as a result of being (shocked) while the crew was doing work on a high voltage junction box in the area,” troopers wrote. “After the accident, Adams’ co-workers provided him with immediate life-saving medical care and requested assistance on their radio.” Troopers say none of the other workers at the site was injured. According to Gallagher, Adams was first examined by doctors in Homer and flown on to Seattle for further treatment. “He was immediately transported to South Peninsula Hospital and after treatment and evaluation, he was transported to the Harborview Burn Center in Seattle Wednesday evening,” Gallagher wrote in a Thursday statement. Gallagher says the specifics in Wednesday’s sequence of events are pending. “The accident is under investigation and further details will be released as additional information becomes available,” Gallagher wrote. “Our prayers and thoughts are with the lineman and his family.” This is a developing story.
