Police are asking for the public's help in locating a man they say sexually abused a minor.
In a Tuesday release by the department, police say they are looking for 32-year-old Daniel Carey, who has an arrest warrant for sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree.
APD spokesperson Jennifer Castro said the arrest warrant for Carey was issued Friday, but police have been unable to contact him by phone or at his home.
Carey was a justice officer working at McLaughlin Youth Center. Castro said it was reported to police that he met a juvenile who had been a resident at the youth center and developed a sexual relationship with the juvenile after the juvenile had left the youth center.
The McLaughlin Youth Center is a 135-bed facility that houses youth detained for pending court actions, as well as youth who have been institutionalized by the court for long-term treatment. The co-ed facility saw about 575 admissions and releases in 2012, according to the state-run website.
Carey is no longer employed at the youth center, Castro wrote.
Information on Carey’s whereabouts can be shared with police by calling 786-8900.
