Police responded Sunday to a Mountain View church where they say a congregation had detained a man after he sexually assaulted a girl in the men's restroom.
The suspect, 29-year-old David Chiklak, was detained in the church parking.
Police said that a 18-year-old woman and a 6-year-old girl had been inside the women's restroom when the woman heard a man later identified as Chiklak call out to the girl, who then exited the restroom.
A short time later, police say, the woman heard the girl crying in the men's restroom. Court documents show that the woman went inside the men's room, where she found Chiklak standing over the girl with his belt unbuckled. The girl was found with her "shirt was lifted up and her tutu ... slightly pulled down."
The girl was interviewed by investigators and confirmed the sexual abuse, according to charging documents.
Police say additional investigation led to arresting Chiklak and charging him with sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree. A release from APD wrote that he was not a member of the church, but was attending services with members.
Chilkak's criminal history includes convictions for assault and criminal trespass, as well as a 2006 conviction in Bethel for sexual abuse of a minor that was amended to misdemeanor harassment after he pleaded no contest.
Anchorage Police believe there could be more victims of Chiklak and are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Christopher Thomas at 907-786-2628.
