The Alaska Redistricting Board is scheduled to meet Friday to discuss its next step after a judge ordered the panel back to work.

Board Chairman John Torgerson planned to wait for a U.S. Supreme Court decision on provisions of the federal Voting Rights Act before the board began redrawing Alaska's political map. But a state court judge recently said there's no need for the board to wait.

The board has been ordered by the Alaska Supreme Court to redraw Alaska's political boundaries for the 2014 elections. The high court allowed last year's elections to go forward under an interim map.

Meanwhile, the board announced earlier this week that its former executive director, Taylor Bickford, would be returning part-time, as-needed, as the board resumes its work.
